Former South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward is coming back from the West Coast.
Football Scoop reports Ward will be joining the Louisville staff as defensive backs coach. He spent this season as defensive coordinator at Fresno State for the recently fired Tim DeRuyter. The move comes the same day as news that Louisville is losing defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to Mississippi State.
Ward served on the Gamecocks staff for seven years in a variety of roles, including cornerbacks coach and defensive coordinator. He was not retained after the 2015 season when South Carolina hired Will Muschamp as head coach.
The former Gamecocks assistant has also made other stops in his career at Virginia Tech and with the Oakland Raiders. He has coached 16 defensive backs who were later drafted to the NFL, including Stephon Gilmore and DeAngelo Hall.
