College GameDay panel critical of Will Muschamp to South Carolina reports
Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has been reported to be the leader for the South Carolina coaching vacancy. ESPN’s College GameDay experts were not a fan of the potential hire.
The experts all expressed their discontent in Muschamp getting another shot at being a head coach in the SEC. Desmond Howard said Muschamp’s failures at Florida wouldn’t bode well at South Carolina.
“It’s interesting to think Muschamp, maybe five or six years ago, was in Texas being groomed for the Texas job, got the Florida job, had unlimited resources, that didn’t work out, went to Auburn, made a bad defense worse and now he’s a lead candidate at South Carolina,” Howard said according to AL.com’s Brandon Marcello. “I would just like to talk to the AD and say, ‘What are you looking for in your next coach?'”
Former UGA linebacker David Pollack wasn’t a fan of Muschamp either. He said Muschamp’s fiery demeanor isn’t head coach material.
“The Muschamp thing for me is, if you watch the Alabama game, the sideline demeanor,” Pollack said, according to Marcello. “It’s so aggressive and I like that maybe if he’s my defensive coordinator, but the head coach you have to show a little restraint for the kids. His personality is so aggressive and intense.”
