The South Carolina baseball community is mourning the tragic passing of Gamecocks baseball recruit Brett Williams.
After initial disbelief and uncertainty surrounding the 16-year-old’s death on Tuesday, the Lexington County Chronicle has unearthed some details on what may have led to his passing.
At just 16 years old, Williams died after he “reportedly suffered from flu complications when he visited a Lexington doctor before he was transported to Columbia where his health declined.”
The Chronicle’s Thomas Grant Jr. reports that an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday to gather more information.
South Carolina baseball coach Chad Holbrook issued a statement on the passing of the player he hoped would one day don his program’s uniform. Williams’ high school teammates at White Knoll told Grant that they would be dedicating their upcoming season in Williams’ honor in a way that was respectful to his parent’s wishes.
