On Friday afternoon, South Carolina coach Will Muschamp sent out a #SpursUp tweet, which normally indicates the Gamecocks have landed another commitment.
A tweet from TheBigSpur, which was later removed, indicated that 3-star safety Zay Brown was the latest addition to South Carolina’s 2017 class.
The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect from Clarke Central High School (Athens, Ga.) later denied that he was committed to the Gamecocks.

In an interview with SportsTalkSC, Brown said his decision will be revealed next month.
“I’ll let you know July 23,” he said. “That’s when I’m visiting with my family. I will announce it July 23 if I did or not.”
Word of his pending decision was also confirmed with SEC Country.
Brown added an offer from South Carolina while he was in Columbia, S.C., last week for the Will Muschamp Football Camp. On Wednesday, he spoke to SEC Country about his interest in the Gamecocks.
“Just how new everything is, the dorms and the people around it, and the coaching staff and all that, the facilities,” he said.
Wake Forest, Colorado State, Charlotte, Georgia State and Western Kentucky have also offered.
“Coach (Travaris Robinson), he said he needed me there … they would love to have me at South Carolina,” Brown said. “Coach Muschamp told me that he coaches safeties, so he would be coaching me and he would love to coach me up while I was in college.”
Brown is ranked as the No. 112 safety in the country, according to the 247Sports composite.
