South Carolina redshirt freshman Jalen Christian has decided to transfer, coach Will Muschamp announced Thursday. The 5-foot-8, 185-pounder will leave the program to be closer to his home in Damascus, Md.
“Jalen Christian and I met and he’s going to transfer,” Muschamp said, according to 247Sports. “He has some things at home. He has some things that are very personal to him. He’s a great young man and we didn’t want him to leave. I really appreciate how he’s handling the situation; he’s handling it like a man. We’re going to help him transfer to a place closer to home. At the end of the day, it’s about the student-athletes.”
Formerly a four-star prospect, Christian was Maryland’s No. 3 recruit in the Class of 2015, per the 247Sports composite. The Gamecocks offered him a scholarship during his freshman season at Damascus High School.
