Former South Carolina wide receiver Damiere Byrd turned heads last weekend at the Carolina Panthers rookie minicamp.
According to a report from ESPN’s David Newton, Byrd caught the eye of Panthers wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl.
“He’s going to be someone to reckon with,” Proehl said.
During his four-year career at South Carolina, Byrd had 68 catches for 1,265 yards and 10 touchdowns over 47 career games.
The Panthers signed Byrd as an undrafted free agent before adding him to the practice squad for most of 2015. Byrd was signed to the regular roster after the Super Bowl.
“I have higher expectations than anybody else, just naturally,” Byrd said. “That’s just who I am. But I definitely feel the confidence from coach Rick and coach (Ron) Rivera.”
