LSU made it known early and often that Stephon Taylor was high on the priority list. The Tigers have been after him for almost a full year and offered him a scholarship to suit up for Les Miles exactly 361 days ago.
But on Wednesday, the four-star defensive tackle out of New Orleans, made it known that the feeling with his state school wasn’t a mutual one.
Instead, the McDonogh 35 star committed to South Carolina, according to GoGamecocks.com, becoming the Gamecocks’ second defensive tackle of the 2016 class. Three-star commit Kobe Smith has already signed and enrolled.
Taylor made an official visit to South Carolina this past weekend, his third straight official visit since Jan. 15 when he paid Texas a visit. On Jan. 22, he went to Florida State. Back in October, he made an official visit to Oklahoma.
Taylor joins the Gamecocks after turning down a whopping 34 other offers, including nine from SEC schools. Alabama, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Tennessee all fought for his services, as well.
