COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin met with reporters after a 67-56 win over Ole Miss on Saturday night at Colonial Life Arena.
With the win, the Gamecocks are one of three teams still unbeaten in SEC play:
- Opening: “Obviously, offensively, we’re a work in progress. That’s two games in a row with 20 turnovers. That’s not good. The field goal percentage offense, I’m OK with that, but that’s two games in a row we can’t get lined up the right way and we just turn the ball over. That’s a recipe for major problems. The one good thing, other than winning, that I take from today’s game … we rebounded the ball. It never took away the steam and effort with which we played defense. … We got to the free throw line — as poorly as we played on offense, we got to the free throw line.”
- Uptick in rebounding: “Maik (Kotsar was active today. … Obviously, Chris (Silva) didn’t get in foul trouble, so he impacted the game in a positive way. … We rebound every day. There’s not a day in practice we don’t do it in a drill.”
- On Silva: “As he continues to stay out of foul trouble and understands what we’re doing, he can be an impactful player. … I’ve got to keep helping him, so he eliminates the bad fouls, so he can stay on the court.”
- Moving on to Kentucky, Florida: “We could play Mighty Mouse and his four cousins and I’d be worked up. … The two teams that have always been in that conversation are those two. … It’s a good barometer for our basketball team.”
