Frank Martin and the South Carolina Gamecocks just advanced to their first Elite Eight in school history. And Martin didn’t take long to thank the team’s that prepared him for the NCAA Tournament run.
In his opening comments, Martin specifically thanked every SEC team for preparing them for the NCAA Tournament.
“I want to thank the teams in the SEC for preparing us to play,” Martin told the media after the game.
South Carolina went 12-6 in SEC which put them in fourth place in the conference. Two of the teams they finished behind, Florida and Kentucky, are both playing in Sweet 16 games later on Friday night.
The Gamecocks actually struggled down the stretch, losing their final two games before the NCAA Tournament, as they lost on the road to Ole Miss and then lost to Alabama in the SEC Tournament. In the Alabama loss, South Carolina scored just 53 points. The Gamecocks scored 65 points in the second half of their win against Duke.
South Carolina takes on the winner of Wisconsin and Florida. The Gamecocks split the regular season series with the Gators.
