COLUMBIA, S.C. — Frank Martin and the South Carolina men’s basketball team are making their final preparations for their 6 day trip to Costa Rica.
NCAA Rules allow the Gamecocks to have 10 practices before their departure. On Thursday, before one of the final workouts in Columbia, coach Frank Martin and a few players, met with reporters to preview the trip.
“We are playing grown men and it’s officiated differently, which Sindarius (Thornwell) has been exposed to it when I took him to Estonia,” Martin said. “None of these others guys, well, Maik Kotsar, he has been exposed to it playing in Estonia. The rest of the guys have never played this international brand. It’s officiated differently. Pretty much, if you bleed, there’s a foul. If you don’t bleed, then you keep playing and you better not pout.
“It will be a great tool for our young kids. This isn’t high school anymore. They’re not going to call that foul because you’re the biggest, strongest kid on the floor. You better learn to play through things and not allow officiating and the physicality of the game not impact how you do your job.”
