COLUMBIA, S.C. – Jake Bentley’s third start yielded his first SEC honors.
The South Carolina freshman quarterback was named the conference’s freshman of the week for his showing in USC’s 31-21 win against Missouri on Saturday.
Bentley threw for a career-high 254 yards on 22 of 28 passing with two touchdowns. He has led the Gamecocks to a 3-0 record in his starts, completing 73 percent of his passes for six touchdowns with no interceptions.
He is the the third Gamecock to receive weekly honors, joining kicker Elliott Fry and cornerback Jamarcus King, who earned special teams player of the week against Vanderbilt and defensive player of the week against Tennessee, respectively.
