Jamyest Williams, the No. 6 ranked cornerback in the Class of 2017, will release a list of five favorites next month while he’s in Oregon for Nike’s ‘The Opening’ recruiting event.
The 4-star prospect from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.) told Phil Kornblut of The State that South Carolina remains under consideration.
“They need me, they need guys and they’ve got to change their program,” Williams said. “And they’ll try to help me with my future also. I think I’ll fit their scheme well. Coach (Travaris) Robinson is the defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator and I know he’s going to put in a great scheme and allow defensive backs to make plays.”
South Carolina last hosted him for a visit in the spring. Alabama, Georgia and Clemson also scored visits earlier this summer.
SEC Country caught up with Williams earlier this month and he broke down the SEC East schools that are in pursuit.
Since then, the Gamecocks have added 2017 commitments from two cornerbacks and a safety, all of whom are rated as 3-star prospects.
Williams, who recently transferred to Grayson from Archer High School (Lawrenceville, Ga.), is listed at 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds. Among 2017 prospects in the state of Georgia, he’s ranked No. 6 overall. Nationally, his ranking is No. 52 overall.
A couple of factors will be weighed as he approaches a final decision, which has no specific timeline.
“Just the relationship I have with the coaches,” Williams said. “How well they gel with my family. And the academic program is the most important thing.”
