The Gamecocks have been hit by injuries at wide receiver this season. Sophomore Deebo Samuel has only had one healthy game. He tweaked his hamstring early against Mississippi State and sat out against East Carolina and Kentucky. He is expected back this Saturday as the Gamecocks host Texas A&M (4 p.m., SEC Network).
Freshman Randrecous Davis missed South Carolina’s game at Kentucky and is out again Saturday.
The 6-foot, 195-pound Charleston entered the preseason as a wide receiver. He flipped to playing safety mid-fall camp to provide more depth.
“Coach Muschamp likes my athleticism, and I’ve never backed down from a challenge or anything like that,” Charleston said at the time. “I’m physical and everything, so I’m ready to go out there and give it a try.”
