COLUMBIA, S.C. – One senior linebacker is expected to be out this week for South Carolina, but another is coming back just in time.
Senior Larenz Bryant will start Saturday for South Carolina against Massachusetts. He is returning from a hamstring injury to make his season debut, while Jonathan Walton is out after having his knee scoped during bye week.
“Larenz is practicing well,” coach Will Muschamp said. “He’s playing SAM for us. He will start Saturday at SAM. Gives us another good athlete, a guy with some length on the edge, to set the defense.”
The 6-foot, 225-pound Bryant has played in 34 games in his career with one start (vs. Kentucky, 2015). He has been out since early in preseason camp and dressed for the first time against Georgia on Oct. 9.
Muschamp also is excited to have Bryant’s contributions back for special teams.
“We’ve really missed on special teams in our first six games,” Muschamp said. “A good cover guy. A guy that does a nice job in our return units as well.
“Excited to get Larenz back out there.”
