COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina coach Will Muschamp met with reporters on Tuesday for his weekly press conference.
Follow along with SEC Country for live updates from the gathering, which begins around 1 o’clock:
1:00 p.m. — “You watch (Tennessee), Butch Jones and their staff have done an excellent job recruiting. They’re a big, strong and fast football team. They look like what you’re supposed to look like.”
1:01 p.m. — “Josh Dobbs is a three-year starter in our league … does an excellent job. Jalen Hurd is big, strong … you’ve got to get a couple of hats on this guy and finish on this guy.”
1:02 p.m. — Muschamp said they had a good practice today with really good focus.
1:03 p.m. — “Jake (Bentley) is a much better athlete than you probably give him credit for. He can run. He will run … we had some zone-reads called the other day, they were give reads. We have a good comfort level with him.”
1:05 p.m. — Donell Stanley practice today for the first time since going down against Vanderbilt, but Muschamp said he was a “little gimpy” on the ankle.
1:06 p.m. — Muschamp said Bentley told him that he watched 2.5 hours of film yesterday.
1:07 p.m. — Stanley was originally thought to be done for the season with his ankle injury, but Muschamp said his availability is a testament to his toughness.
1:08 p.m. — “I think we’re always wanting to be efficient on first-down. We want to be second-and-6 or less.”
1:10 p.m. — David Williams continues to improve his practice habits. “I think there’s been a lot of examples on our team of guys that have continued to stay the course and play extremely hard.”
1:12 p.m. — Muschamp stressed to the team how important it is to win Eastern Division games in the SEC. Remembering how close the Tennessee/South Carolina games have been over the last four years, he addressed that with the team this week. “The bottom line is Tennessee has won the last three years. We’ve got to change it.”
1:13 p.m. — “They have been really hit hard by injuries and certainly affected them, especially on the defensive side of the ball … we prepare for all personnel matters, as far as guys that we feel like can change the game.”
1:14 p.m. — “I don’t think they’re not going to run it, based on our run defense. I think we’ll see some runs … I do think we’ve made some strides, certainly, but we’ll have a test here Saturday night.”
1:15 p.m. — Muschamp had ‘Rocky Top’ played during workouts this week. “Play good and they won’t play it … they’re still going to play it.”
