South Carolina QB Jake Bentley is getting his old jersey number back.
Former Gamecocks QB Lorenzo Nunez has transferred from the program. That means his No. 19 jersey was available. That’s the number Bentley wore in high school. Bentley will wear his new jersey in the Birmingham Bowl against South Florida.

The true freshman took over as the starter for South Carolina’s game against UMass on Oct. 22. Both Brand McIlwain and Perry Orth had worked as the No. 1 quarterback before that.
Bentley has completed 63.3 percent of his passes this season. He has 1,030 passing yards with 6 touchdowns against 2 interceptions in six games.
South Carolina and USF kick off at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN.
