Two days after South Carolina basketball’s season concluded, associate head coach Matt Figger is on to a new gig.
Figger accepted the head coaching job at Austin Peay, moving on to take the reins of a program after spending the past 10 years on Frank Martin’s staff. The school announced the news Monday, two days after South Carolina lost 77-73 to Gonzaga in the Final Four.

In the days leading up to the Final Four, reports surfaced that Figger was in “advanced talks” to become the next head coach at Austin Peay.
Figger spent five years with Martin at Kansas State before moving to South Carolina with Martin for the past five years. He spent the past four seasons as the associate head coach after previously holding an assistant coach title.
Figger also served as the South Carolina recruiting coordinator. Martin put Figger in charge on South Carolina’s trip to Costa Rica prior to the 2016-17 season, leaving all the head coaching duties to Figger, who now has his own program to run.
