South Carolina officials announced that Monday night’s Regional against UNCW has been postponed until Tuesday, because of inclement weather.
The official release did not list a time for first pitch. Tuesday’s winner will face Oklahoma State in the NCAA Super Regional.
The Gamecocks forced the regional’s seventh and final game after knocking off the Seahawks 10-1 on Sunday night.
Before their nightcap with UNCW, South Carolina had to beat Rhode Island to keep their tournament hopes alive. The Rams forced the Columbia Regional hosts into the loser’s bracket with Friday night’s 5-4 loss, but the Gamecocks returned the favor with a 23-2 beatdown.
South Carolina also eliminated Duke from the tournament with a 4-2 win on Saturday.
With a second straight win over UNCW, South Carolina will advance to the Super Regional and host Oklahoma State. The winner of that best-of-three series moves on to the College World Series.
Eric Detweiler of starnewsonline.com reported Monday morning that UNCW was planning to start righty Ryan Foster, who threw a complete game on Friday night against Duke.
No starting pitcher has been named by South Carolina coach Chad Holbrook.
