When it comes to paying the bills for a NASCAR team, sometimes securing a quality sponsor takes precedent over all else.
That includes football fandom.
Auto racing star Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is a self-described South Carolina football fan, will be sporting the colors and logo of the Michigan Wolverines on his No. 88 Chevrolet when he competes at Michigan Motor Speedway in late August.

Even though it runs against his football allegiance, it should help the popular driver be a fan favorite in front of what is sure to be a pro-Michigan racing crowd.
He may be driving in enemy colors, but perhaps Earnhardt can take solace in the memory of the Gamecocks’ 33-28 win over Wolverines at the 2013 Outback Bowl.
