South Carolina may have determined its top choice to replace Steve Spurrier at the helm of its football program. According to a report from JC Shurburtt of 247Sports.com, Houston coach Tom Herman has surfaced as the leading candidate for the job.
Herman has led the Houston Cougars to an 8-0 start in his first season as head coach. The Cougars possess one of college football’s best offenses, ranking fifth nationally in scoring offense and eighth in the country in rushing offense.
Herman also served as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator from 2012-14 before taking the head job at Houston. According to Shurburtt, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, Texas coach Charlie Strong and Memphis coach Justin Fuente could also be considered for the job.
