Junior college defensive end Dorian Gerald, one of the top prospects on the South Carolina recruiting radar, is reportedly close to announcing a decision.
Lou Bezjak of The State confirmed with Gerald, who played at West Florence (S.C.) High School, that a decision will be revealed on Thursday.
“That’s the plan,” Gerald said.

Florida, Louisville, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee were recently listed as Gerald’s finalists, though the Gamecocks and Vols are believed to be the primary contenders for his commitment.
Gerald, a sophomore at College of the Canyons in California, visited South Carolina and Tennessee earlier this summer.
“It was everything I expected it to be. South Carolina is an amazing place with amazing coaches. They have a pretty bright future with the operations building and everything,” Gerald told SEC Country, following the visit. “Carolina is going to be a great place.”
The trip to Knoxville, during which he was accompanied by his entire family, was a couple of days later. According to reports, Gerald said it went extremely well. Only his grandmother visited for the most recent stop in Columbia.
It was about two weeks ago when Gerald first thought he was ready to make a decision, so the timing of his announcement on Thursday shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
South Carolina has commitments from a pair of JUCO defensive linemen: Dantrell Barkley and Jabari Ellis, both of whom will play tackle. Among the three, Gerald (11) is the top-rated JUCO prospect in the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite.
