Five-star basketball star Zion Williamson appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Thursday night. Afterwards, Jeff Goodman shared some good news for South Carolina fans.
Goodman, ESPN’s basketball insider, said sources have indicated that South Carolina is among the favorites for the small forward from Spartanburg (S.C.) Day School.
“Right now, there’s three that probably stand out the most and that’s Duke, Kansas, South Carolina, Kentucky, obviously with Drake wearing that shirt, they’ve probably got an in there, too,” Goodman said. “I’d say those four are probably in the lead.”
In December, Williamson told SEC Country that he has a “really good relationship” with the coaches from South Carolina.
“We talk on a daily basis,” Williamson said.
The Gamecocks hosted him for a game in February.
The 6-foot-7, 220-pound junior is the No. 1 small forward in the class of 2018. Overall, he’s the No. 2 prospect.
“The recruiting process, for me, it’s a very special (and) tricky process,” he said, during the SportsCenter appearance.
“Some days, you want to answer every phone call, open every piece of mail. Other days, you just want to lay down and call it a day.”
When asked where things stand in his recruitment, Williamson offered no real clarity.
“My recruitment is still wide-open,” he said.
