South Carolina men’s basketball coach Frank Martin has his team on the verge of tying the record for most wins in school history and now he is in a position to cash in.
On Monday, Martin was offered a four-year extension by South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner, according to the State’s David Cloninger. The proposed extension includes a raise and would make Martin the coach through 2022.
South Carolina (24-7, 11-7 SEC) tallied the most regular season wins in program history this season, including 15 straight victories to begin the schedule. The Gamecocks will play the winner between Mississippi State and Georgia on Friday in the SEC tournament.
Martin failed to lead South Carolina to the NCAA tournament in his first three seasons at the helm, but the Gamecocks are currently projected to qualify for the first time since 2004.
