Former Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier recently took an off-field role with the Gamecocks after retiring in the middle of last season.
Now, his son will do the same, but in a different conference.
Steve Spurrier, Jr. will join the football staff at Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoman’s Jason Kersey. He spent the last 11 years as the receivers coach and recruiting coordinator with the Gamecocks under his father.
Spurrier Jr. will reportedly return to the Sooners program, where he served as the receivers coach from 1999-01 before leaving to join the elder Spurrier during his stint in the NFL with the Washington Redskins. The coach previously worked with current Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops at Arizona.
The Sooners won the Big 12 last season before losing to Clemson in the College Football Playoff Semifinal.
