Report: Steve Spurrier to receive full compensation despite resignation
South Carolina will continue to pay Steve Spurrier through the end of the year, athletic director Ray Tanner told The State Friday.
Although Spurrier resigned, he will receive the full $4 million he’s owed for the remainder of 2015.
In accordance with Spurrier’s contract, the Gamecocks’ former head coach could receive more than $920,000 over the final 12 weeks left in the year.
When asked why Spurrier was continuing to receive pay despite leaving his position, Tanner told The State: “All circumstances are different, especially in collegiate athletics with major college coaches.”
Additionally, Tanner said pay raises for the assistant coaches that were promoted as a result of Spurrier’s resignation, including interim coach Shawn Elliott, have yet to be determined.
