Former North Carolina cornerback Mike Hughes, who’s now at Garden City Junior College (Kansas), spent this weekend taking an official visit to South Carolina.
The No. 4-ranked JUCO cornerback in the class of 2017 told Phil Kornblut that the trip gives him more to consider.
“It was pretty good, I enjoyed myself, I have some serious thinking to do about where I want to be and just taking it one day at a time right now,” Hughes said. “(Will Muschamp) emphasized how much I would make a difference on the team being the dynamic player that I am and all the areas I would help.
“He emphasized that pretty well and I think I could see myself playing here.”
Hughes, who’s originally from New Bern, N.C., is also considering Auburn, Ole Miss and TCU. Only TCU has had him on campus for an official visit. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect has two more official visits at his disposal, though he’s yet to schedule a trip for next weekend.
South Carolina has already signed a pair of JUCO defensive backs in Kaleb Chalmers and Keisean Nixon. Chalmers enrolled earlier this month.
The Gamecocks 2017 class includes several defensive backs: Jaylin Dickerson, Hamsah Nasirildeen, Jamyest Williams, Zay Brown and Tavyn Jackson.
