On Sunday night, South Carolina added a commitment from South Aiken (S.C.) cornerback Tancey Richardson.
Richardson was offered by South Carolina earlier this month, after an appearance at the Will Muschamp Football Camp.
“I’d talked to my dad today and mom — we’d narrowed it down to two schools, Colorado State and Carolina. Then we just talked about each program,” Richardson told SEC Country. “Them watching me played a big part, staying close to home and that played a big part, and being around my friends, so I decided to stay in-state.”
Richardson is South Carolina’s fourth 2017 defensive back commitment since Friday. The Gamecocks landed 3-star cornerback Tavyn Jackson and Damarri Mathis on Friday and 3-star safety Jaylin Dickerson on Saturday.
Not counting junior college placement Javon Kinlaw, the Gamecocks now have nine in-state commitments in the class.
“I’m super excited. I feel like we’re going to do something special with this class that we have now,” Richardson told SEC Country. “We have so much talent, it doesn’t make any sense.”
Mississippi State and Colorado State also offered the 5-foot-11, 190-pound prospect, who’s listed by the 247Sports’ composite as a two-star athlete.
