South Carolina sophomore running back Rico Dowdle was chosen for the watch list for the Doak Walker Award on Thursday.
The award is named for SMU’s three-time All-America running back Doak Walker and is presented to the nation’s top college running back by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum. It requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate with one year of other students of the same classification.
Dowdle, who is 5 foot 11, 220 pounds and from Asheville, N.C., led South Carolina with 133 rushes for 764 yards and he rushed for seven touchdowns last year. He also had three 100-yard rushing games last season.
The athletic forum’s board of directors will announce 10 semifinalists for the award on Nov. 15. The three finalists will be announced on Nov. 20. The award winner will be announced live on Dec. 7.
