To the victors come the spoils. After helping lead South Carolina to the program’s first women’s basketball national title, coach Dawn Staley earned a pretty neat honor on Sunday from Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.
Benjamin informed those waiting in attendance for the Gamecocks’ championship parade that a block leading up to Colonial Life Arena will be named “Dawn Staley Way” in honor of South Carolina’s coach.

Staley, who took over as South Carolina’s coach in 2008, was ecstatic about the news, while also thanking the community for their unconditional support throughout the years.
“It’s incredible what the state and our city have done for our team,” Staley said.
