Saturday’s cookout in Columbia came with good news for the Gamecocks — news that has long been expected.
Class of 2017 Athens (Ga.) Clarke Central safety Zay Brown made the decision to end his recruitment, committing to South Carolina almost a month after it initially looked like he had joined Will Muschamp’s first full class.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Brown also held offers from Wake Forest, Western Kentucky, Colorado State, Charlotte and Georgia State.
The Gamecocks now have 17 members in their 2017 class, which moved up to the No. 23 class in the nation per the 247Sports Composite with his commitment.
Brown is ranked the No. 111 safety in the nation.
