Shane Roberts had been committed to play baseball at South Carolina since July of last year. But the starting pitcher from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., had an interesting decision to make after he was selected by the New York Yankees in the 28th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
On Tuesday, Roberts made that decision.
Even though he grew up a Yankees fan, Roberts will remain committed to the Gamecocks and play at the college level, as he announced through a message on Twitter.

Roberts spoke with the new coaching staff and decided to stick with his decision to play for South Carolina, even though it may have been tempting to play in the Yankees’ minor-league system.
The Gamecocks went 35-25 in 2017, missing the NCAA Tournament, so Roberts will be among the group trying to help them get back on track in 2018.
