Two of South Carolina’s final three games come against College Football Playoff contenders Florida and Clemson.
If you think the Gamecocks are relishing the opportunity to play spoiler to either one of their rivals’ seasons, guess again.
South Carolina interim coach Shawn Elliott immediately brushed off the idea of his team playing the spoiler role, indicating his team is focused on winning games, not ruining seasons.
“Those teams that say ‘let’s go play spoiler’ are a joke to me,” Elliott said as his Tuesday press conference. “Our goal is to win football games. It doesn’t matter what they’re ranked or how successful they are. Anyone with a competitive spirit wants to go out and win. The word spoiler hasn’t come up and it shouldn’t come up.
“We don’t play that way. We want to go out and be successful because we prepared to beat them, not because they’re the No. 7 or No. 1-ranked team.”
South Carolina plays host to No. 11 Florida on Saturday before closing out the regular season against Clemson, which is currently the top-ranked team in the nation.
