Saturday marked the first game without the Head Ball Coach patrolling the sidelines at Williams-Brice Stadium, but his memory has not been forgotten.
Before interim coach Shawn Elliott led the Gamecocks onto the field, he held up a visor in honor of Steve Spurrier. That put the crowd into a frenzy and certainly amped up the excitement as the players raced out of the tunnel before the game against Vanderbilt.
Of course, this marks the first game in about a decade Spurrier will not be coaching South Carolina. A tribute was expected, and it certainly was fitting.
