South Carolina’s men and women just finished historic seasons on the hardwood, and two representatives of each team will be honored on the diamond in the coming days.
Sindarius Thornwell, who led the Gamecocks to their first ever Final Four, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the baseball team on Thursday. Coach Dawn Staley, who led the women to their first national championship, will do the same on Saturday.
South Carolina baseball’s official Twitter account made the announcement on Wednesday.

Both games will be part of a three-game series with Vanderbilt.
Thornwell was named co-SEC Player of the Year after averaging 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game this past season. He stepped his game up in the NCAA Tournament by averaging 23.6 PPG in five games.
Staley just wrapped up her ninth season in Columbia, beating Mississippi State 67-55 in the championship game. The Gamecocks have reached the Sweet 16 or better in five of the last six seasons under Staley’s guidance.
