Braxton Burmeister, a four-star dual-threat quarterback out of La Jolla, Calif., de-committed from University of Arizona on Friday, perhaps opening the door for an SEC school to swoop in.
“I have decided to withdraw my commitment from the University of Arizona,” he tweeted Friday night. “I have the upmost (sic) respect for the coaches, program and the University. However at this time, my family, coaches and I believe this is the best decision for me.”
According to Matt Moreno of Rivals, Burmeister is still considering Arizona, but is looking at Utah, University of Washington and South Carolina, too.
A 6-foot-1, 211-pound prospect, Burmeister is the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2017, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. The Gamecocks recently signed four-star dual-threat quarterback in Brandon McIlwain, who enrolled on Jan. 15, but coach Will Muschamp yet to gain a commitment from a QB in the 2017 class.
