Led by Sindarius Thornwell and P.J. Dozier, the South Carolina basketball team is 1-0 in in SEC play, following a 67-61 win at Georgia on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Gamecocks now are 11-3 overall and have avoided losing consecutive games for the first time this season.
Thornwell, who was playing for the first time since Dec. 1, had 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Player of the game
Dozier was the most productive player on the floor, scoring a game-high 24 points, to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. He was also 9 of 17 from the field and 2 for 5 from behind the 3-point line.
As the game clock fell below 1:00, J.J. Frazier found Yante Maten at the top of the key for a wide-open 3-pointer, to cut South Carolina’s lead to a point. Thornwell answered on the other end, tipping in his own missed layup.
The Gamecocks forced a turnover, then pushed the lead to 65-61 with 30.7 seconds left to play.
