The South Carolina Gamecocks took it to the Baylor Bears on Friday, playing stifling defense on their way to a Sweet 16 victory, winning 70-50. Frank Martin’s squad will march on to the regional final at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, where they will face off against either Wisconsin or fellow SEC member Florida.
Understandably, the South Carolina fans who made the trip to New York were pumped up about the experience, and there were several “Game-Cocks” down the stretch of the game. But with Florida fans also in the building as they await their team’s game, another familiar chant broke out in the final minutes of the Gamecocks’ win. All across Madison Square Garden, fans could be heard chanting “S-E-C!” as the clock wound down.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey was in attendance, of course, and certainly liked what he heard:
