Will Muschamp’s defense will reportedly be without a key piece this spring.
South Carolina junior defensive end Dante Sawyer will miss spring practices after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder on Wednesday, according to The State’s Josh Kendall.
The 6-foot-3, 291-pound Georgia native just wrapped up his first season with the Gamecocks after transferring from East Mississippi Community College at the end of 2014.
In four starts this past season, Sawyer racked up 17 tackles, including 2.5 for loss. He also registered 2.5 sacks, a pass breakup and recovered a fumble.
