As Will Muschamp looks to put his personal touch on the South Carolina defense, he’ll now have some new linebackers with which to do so.
T.J. Brunson, a three-star inside linebacker from Richard Northeast High School (Columbia, S.C.), announced he has committed to South Carolina.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for all of the opportunities that have been given to me,” Brunson announced via Twitter.
“I thank my parents, coaches, and close friends for helping me throughout the process and sticking with me through the highs and lows that are brought with recruiting. I would like to thank Lori, Marshall, Lindsey, Paul, Brian, and Shed for helping me recover from a surgery many didn’t think I would bounce back from. I would like to thank all of the coaches who’ve given me the opportunity to play football and represent their school and have recruited me through everything.
“I’ve often heard that it isn’t a four-year decision, but a (40)-year decision, and after much thought and prayer, I’d like to make the announcement that I’ll be attending the University of South Carolina.”
Brunson selected the Gamecocks over the likes of Louisville and Tulane, among others. He de-committed from Louisville on Dec. 21, days after receiving an in-home visit from Muschamp and offensive line coach Shawn Elliott.
The decision comes just hours removed from an official visit to South Carolina, though he is still tentatively scheduled to visit Tulane this coming weekend.
The Columbia product is rated as South Carolina’s No. 15 prospect and the No. 34 inside linebacker in the country.
