Change is likely inevitable in Columbia, S.C., this offseason.
But some fans want it immediately.
Disgruntled South Carolina fan Thomas Sumter created a petition on Change.org asking that Gamecocks fans be allowed to call the plays against Clemson in the regular-season finale.
The letter is addressed to President Barack Obama and South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner.
“The fans should be able to have a voice on the field for the last game in this era of South Carolina football,” Sumter wrote. “As a matter of fact, the fans should have THE voice on the field. They’ve sat through an inexplicable collapse of a once highly-(competitive) football program.”
Clearly, Sumter is upset. And rightfully so only 24 hours removed from the Gamecocks’ home loss to The Citadel.
Will it work? Probably not. But is it interesting? Absolutely.
