COLUMBIA, S.C. — On Friday morning, the university’s Board of Trustees agreed to make amendments to contracts for five assistant coaches on the South Carolina football team.
Defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon, defensive line coach Lance Thompson, offensive line coach Eric Wolford and quarterbacks coach Dan Werner, all of whom are on multi-year contracts, will not be obligated to pay their respective buy-outs, if hired as a head coach for a professional or college team.
Members of the Board agreed unanimously to the motion, along with a few others.
South Carolina’s athletics department will fund a split-dollar-insurance vehicle for women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, who will vest and be entitled to benefits of the vehicle, if she remains as coach through April 1, 2022. The athletics department will contribute $300,000 a year for the next five years.
New 1-year contract extensions are now in place for women’s basketball assistant coach Lisa Boyer and men’s basketball assistant coaches Perry Clark and Chuck Martin.
Boyer’s new will pay her $300,000 for the upcoming year. The annual salaries for Clark and Martin will remain unchanged at $300,000 and $265,000, respectively.
