South Carolina football has another candidate to play the BUCK: Redshirt freshman defensive end Griffin Gentry.
On Wednesday, sophomore Daniel Fennell said the 6-foot-1, 240-pound Gentry has slid over to the BUCK linebacker position, a hybrid linebacker-defensive spot.
Sophomore DJ Wonnum tops the depth chart at the BUCK, with defensive line coach Lance Thompson saying earlier this spring that Wonnum is “to be honest with you, he is the BUCK.”
Gentry redshirted last season as a true freshman out of Birmingham (Ala.) Homewood. Fennell also is working at the BUCK, while incoming freshman Brad Johnson is expected to play it as well when he arrives this summer.
South Carolina is in its third week of spring practices with the spring game scheduled for April 1 at Williams-Brice Stadium.
