COLUMBIA, S.C. — Jake Bentley, the starting quarterback for the South Carolina football team, focused on accuracy during the Gamecocks bye week.
That starts, he told reporters on Tuesday afternoon, with cleaning up his footwork.
“This offseason, we worked so much on pocket movement,” Bentley said. “That’s one of the big things we did was moving the pocket — quick feet. I think we kind of did it too much, so tried to slow that down and get comfortable with my feet, keep them in the ground more, not over-striding. Just keeping them right underneath me with a good base and just delivering the ball.
“A lot of times, we kind of saw through film, feet just getting out of whack for no reason. Just trying to move too much in the pocket, so we just worked on real subtle movements in the pocket and keeping my feet ready to throw and just delivering a good ball.”
This season, Bentley has completed just over 60 percent of his passes for 1,585 yards with 12 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
