According to Pro Football Focus, five players from the South Carolina football team are rated among the best in the SEC at their respective positions.
Vinnie Ronca shared those grades during the weekend.
Junior tight end Hayden Hurst, who has caught 41 passes for 518 yards and 2 touchdowns, is one of the two Gamecocks from the offensive side of the ball. His 78.6 rating currently sits third-best among SEC tight ends, behind Albert Okwuegbunam (Missouri) and C.J. Conrad (Kentucky).
The other player from that side of the ball, junior Donell Stanley, sits third among the SEC’s guards with a grade of 83.7. Stanley has started all 12 games, either at left or right guard.
Seniors Chris Lammons, Skai Moore and Dante Sawyer are among the top-graded players on defense.
Lammons, who’s third among Gamecocks tacklers (70), is tied for fourth on the safeties list with Ole Miss’ Zedrick Woods (83.7). J.R. Reed (Georgia), Stephen Roberts (Auburn) and Ronnie Harrison (Auburn) round out the top 3.
Sawyer is tied for first in the country with 5 forced fumbles. That probably plays a big part in his 83.7 rating, which is tied for first among SEC edge defenders. Auburn’s Jeff Holland is the other.
Moore, South Carolina’s leading tackler, trails only Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith (89.5), the winner of the 2017 Butkus Award. Moore has 88 tackles, 3 interceptions and 2 sacks.
