South Carolina men’s basketball coach Frank Martin, speaking on the 2017 SEC Men’s Basketball Summer Teleconference on Monday, said he’s not a fan of the current one-and-done rule for college basketball players.
“I’ve never been in favor of the one-and-done rule,” Martin said. “It’s an NBA rule and not an NCAA rule.”
Martin said he’s for basketball players having the chance to decide their own futures.
“I don’t think anyone should deprive anyone the right to work,” he said.
Martin talked about a variety of subjects on the conference.
He said the Gamecocks’ Final Four appearance earlier this year has had an impact on recruiting, but not int he ways that most people would think.
“Anytime you have an opportunity to play on that platform, it opens up doors,” Martin said. “It doesn’t necessarily makes recruiting easier.”
But Martin said the Final Four appearance has increased South Carolina’s visibility among potential players.
“The pool we are recruiting from just got bigger,” he said.
