South Carolina is piecing together its backfield of the future.
The Gamecocks picked up a commitment from three-star running back Rico Dowdle on Friday afternoon.
Dowdle, a three-star prospect out of A. C. Reynolds High School (Asheville, N.C.), is the second running back pledge in South Carolina’s 2016 recruiting class.
The other — C.J. Freeman of Northern Guilford (Greensboro, N.C.) — already signed his letter of intent and is an early enrollee at the university.
The 5-foot-11, 207-pound back chose South Carolina over the likes of Vanderbilt and Tennessee, among others.
He reported an offer from the Gamecocks on Dec. 16 and is expected to officially visit Columbia, S.C. on Jan. 22.
Dowdle is rated as the No. 45 running back in the country and North Carolina’s No. 34 prospect, per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
Officially committed to the University of South Carolina! ? #spursup ?
