In the mix
The South Carolina Gamecocks left an impression on 4-star safety and 2019 prospect Jaylen McCollough when he visited during spring practice.
“It went well, my first time actually seeing the team move around,” McCollough told SportsTalkSC’s Phil Kornblut. “Got to see how the defensive moves and how the offense operated. I was really impressed. Coach [Will] Muschamp has a plan and it looks really good. The offense is trying to force a sense of urgency and tempo, and the defense was just flying around and getting to the ball.”
McCollough is rated as the No. 86 overall prospect for 2019, per the 247Sports composite.
Three different NFL.com draft analysts predict former South Carolina tight end Hayden Hurst going in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
- Daniel Jeremiah: No. 16 — Baltimore Ravens
- Bucky Brooks: No. 24 — Carolina Panthers
- Charley Casserly: No. 27 — New Orleans Saints
The former All-SEC performer is hoping to become the first South Carolina player taken in the first round since defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was taken No. 1 overall by the Houston Texans in 2014.
Out in front
South Carolina has a slight lead over Tennessee in the pursuit of 4-star cornerback and 2019 prospect Jaydon Hill, according to Hill himself.
“Actually, South Carolina gets a tad bit more edge because they are recruiting me a little bit harder. I hear from their coaches a little bit more. I talk to coach T-Rob [Travaris Robinson] about every day,” he told Blake Morgan of SEC Country.
The Madison, Ala., native is rated as the No. 29 cornerback for 2019, per the 247Sports composite.
South Carolina sent out at least six new offers this week to 2019 prospects:
- 4-star WR Donavon Green (Mount Airy, N.C.)
- 4-star WR Isaiah Hazel (Upper Marlboro, Md.)
- 3-star LB Makiya Tongue (Baton Rouge, La.)
- 3-star S Aaron Beasley (Franklin, Ga.)
- 3-star WR Kalani Norris (Miami, Fla.)
- WR TJ Jones (Lake City, Fla.)
Green, a Duke commit, is the highest rated of the group, tabbed as the No. 199 overall prospect for 2019 by the 247Sports composite.

Give me Moore
Former South Carolina linebacker Skai Moore is likely to be the next ex-Gamecocks player taken in the draft.
“During a conference call on Wednesday, ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper [Jr.] told reporters that Moore would probably be drafted in the fourth or fifth round,” SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan wrote.
Pro Football Focus ranks Moore as the No. 5 linebacker prospect in the draft.
