Major DT target enjoys visiting with coaches
Four-star DT Rick Sandidge returned to Columbia this past weekend for the Gamecocks’ final recruiting event of the summer.
The Concord (N.C.) standout told SEC Country he had a “good time” catching up with South Carolina coaches and players.
Rick Sandidge’s mom chimes in
A South Carolina alum, Keshia Sandidge would love to see her son play for the Gamecocks but understands the decision is ultimately Rick’s.
“I think my opinion is a little bit biased,” Keshia said. “We try to keep it to where he can make the decision on his own.”
Florida speedster Lavonte Valentine runs down weekend
Running back commitment Lavonte Valentine was back on campus this past weekend, with his grandmother, father and younger brother in tow.
“Wow, everything about this trip was amazing,” the Melbourne, Fla., native said. “This was the best decision I’ve ever made, committing to the University of South Carolina.”
4-star CB Jaycee Horn updates status
Four-star CB Jaycee Horn, long thought to be a South Carolina lean, has taken recent trips to visit Alabama and Tennessee, not having returned to Columbia since mid-June.
The standout corner told SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner that all three schools are “in a good spot right now.” Horn wants to make sure he’s “100 percent ready” before he announces a commitment.

Sage advice from Perry Orth
Former South Carolina QB Perry Orth offered a simple piece of advice for current starting QB Jake Bentley.
“Don’t buy into all of the hype,” Orth told WACH-TV’s Mike Uva. “Continue to do the things you’ve done to get you where you [are], because as soon as you let some of that stuff start to get to your head, you go downhill a little.”
A clean sheet for Brad Guzan
Former South Carolina goalkeeper Brad Guzan (2003-04) earned MLS Team of the Week honors for shutting out Orlando City in his debut for Atlanta United last Friday.
“We’ll see if Guzan — and his team — can capitalize on [his] performance as Atlanta United hosts Orlando City this weekend,” writes Sydney Hunte of Dirty South Soccer. “But early returns, at least after one game, look pretty good.”
In the mix for high-scoring Randy Onwuasor
Coach Frank Martin and the South Carolina men’s basketball team are reportedly receiving a visit from Southern Utah grad transfer Randy Onwuasor, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reports.
Onwuasor averaged 23.6 points per game last season for the Thunderbirds.
