On the list
The Gamecocks have assembled quite the guest list for this weekend, including several top uncommitted targets.
Confirmed guests include: 4-star LB Dax Hollifield, 3-star ATH Bryce Thompson, 3-star S Israel Mukuamu, 4-star DT Rick Sandidge, 4-star WR Josh Vann and many more.
In less than a year, the wide receiver position at South Carolina has gone from major question mark to unquestioned strength, built on the foundation of talented pass-catchers Deebo Samuel and Bryan Edwards.
With former 4-star recruits OrTre Smith and Shi Smith, along with fellow freshman Chad Terrell, joining the fold, the Gamecocks have built serious depth at wide receiver.
Barton Simmons of 247Sports ranked South Carolina QB Jake Bentley as the No. 5 starting quarterback in the SEC. Simmons praises Bentley’s “special intangibles,” including his “great composure” and “unique confidence.”
According to The State, the 2010 Gamecocks (9-5) are the best team in South Carolina Gamecocks football history.
Though other groups won more games, no other team can claim a victory over Clemson, upset over No. 1 Alabama and an SEC East crown all in the same season. These accolades put this team above the rest, writes The State’s David Cloninger.
A new max
For his herculean effort, the four-star quarterback earned a shout-out from Sports Illustrated.
No respect, I tell ya
Matt Norlander of CBS Sports tabbed South Carolina’s men’s basketball team as 10th-best in the SEC in his early conference power rankings for the 2017-18 season. Norlander calls the Gamecocks “a long shot for an NCAA bid.”
Return to Columbia
Former South Carolina star (and current Los Angeles Clippers guard) Sindarius Thornwell will return to Columbia to play in the South Carolina ProAm on Thursday night, according to former Gamecocks point guard sand event organizer Carey Rich.
A change of heart
According to a report from The Post and Courier, former South Carolina skipper Chad Holbrook has again emerged as a candidate for the vacant position at College of Charleston.
This is the latest development following Holbrook’s reported acceptance of the job and subsequent veto by Charleston President Glen McConnell.
The great debate
South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney’s epic hit on Michigan RB Vincent Smith in the 2013 Outback Bowl might get the publicity, but South Carolina S DJ Swearinger’s blast to Clemson RB Andre Ellington weeks prior was more impressive, argues SEC Country’s Hale McGranahan.
