Tyreek Johnson’s first scholarship offer came in February from his home-state school, South Carolina. Two months later, the three-star defensive end from Sumter, is ready to join the Gamecocks.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end committed to South Carolina Saturday afternoon, according to The State’s Phil Kornblut.
Johnson’s only other offer was from Coastal Carolina, and the recruit even admitted he was shocked when he received an offer from coach Will Muschamp.
“It was very exciting,” Johnson told Kornblut. “I was actually kind of surprised, to be honest with you. I wasn’t really expecting to get an offer from a big SEC school like USC. I feel kind of proud about myself because I know every game my family is probably going to be out there, cheering me on and supporting me.”
Johnson is the eighth signee in South Carolina’s 2017 class. He recorded 89 tackles and 10 sacks for Lakewood High School last season.
